Glove Standards Overview

The Australian/ New Zealand Glove standards have been based on the European standards to ensure safety in the workplace. The following sections of the EN standards and AS/ NZS 2161 Occupational Protective Gloves, relate to WSP products:

  • EN 420: 2003

    General requirements – AS/NZS 2161.2:2005

  • EN 388: 2003

    Protection against mechanical risks – AS/NZS 2161.3:2005

  • EN 407:1994

    Protection against Thermal risks (heat and fire) – AS/NZS 2161,4:1999

  • EN 374-2:2003

    Protective gloves against chemicals and microorganisms – Determination of resistance to penetration – AS/NZS 2161.10.2:2005

  • EN 374-3:2003

    Determination of resistance to permeation by chemicals – AS/NZS 2161.10.3:2005

EN 420: General Requirements

All WSP gloves are compliant to EN 420:2003 which specifies the general requirements for glove construction, high visibility, innocuousness, cleaning, comfort and efficiency, marking and information applicable to occupational protective gloves.

General requirements:

  • Design and construction is suited to intended use
  • Any seams present, do not significantly decrease product performance
  • Does not harm the health or hygiene of the user


  • 5 performance levels, determined by tests in which metal bars of various diameters are picked up

PH value:

  • All gloves are checked for compliance in terms of the pH value greater than 3.5 and less than 9.5 Sizing
  • Glove sizing conforms to set specifications with respect to hand circumference
  • Minimum glove lengths are specified for each size

Respiratory Protection requirements

AS/NZS 1716:2003 standard specifies requirements for respiratory protection devices intended to provide protection against atmospheres containing substances, which may be harmful if breathed. The standard specifies requirements, performance and testing criteria to be observed in the manufacture of respirators.

Selecting the right features

AS/NZS 1715:1994 standard sets out the principles of respiratory protection and makes recommendations for the selection, use and maintenance of respirators for personal protection against atmospheres deficient in oxygen or against harmful substances.

P2 Disposable Respirators

P2 dust/mist and fume respirators with adjustable plastic nose clip and soft foam nosepiece for comfortable custom fit. P2 designated respirators provide protection against thermally generated fumes and smoke when, for example, welding; soldering; brazing; metal cutting or pouring.

Disposable Respirators with valve

The P2v valve makes breathing easier, cooler and also extends the life of the mask.

Disposable Respirator with Active Carbon

These respirators are covered with active carbon to pre-filter organic vapours, and feature an adjustable plastic nose clip and soft foam nosepiece for comfortable, custom fit. These respirators also contain active carbon, protecting against mechanically generated particulates and mists of sizes commonly encountered in industry, and mining dusts (i.e. Coal, copper, zinc, lead; dusts from fibreglass, asbestos, timber, cement). The valve adds comfort and helps to extend the longevity of the mask.

Use and maintenance

Operating Conditions

Operational temperature range for use 0 to +50 degrees C Disposable respirators are not suitable for use in:

  • Oxygen deficient atmospheres (less than 18%)
  • Atmospheres immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) containing toxic gases or vapours
  • Areas where the particulate concentration exceeds 10 times the occupational exposure limit
  • Highly toxic atmospheres (refer to AS/NSZ1716)

Fitting instructions


How often should they be replaced?

Disposable respirators are designed to last throughout an 8 hour shift. However, the effectiveness of the respirator will deteriorate faster in hot, dusty, humid conditions or in the presence of oil and oil mists. Please note that respirators should not be cleaned or reused. Instead, replace the entire mask when shift ends or if the filter medium becomes clogged.

How should they be stored?

It is recommended to store the respirators at 20~30°C in a clean dry environment.

Safety Glasses

Safety Glasses Standards

AS/NZS 1337:2010 Occupational eye and face protection specifies requirements for eye and face protection devices intended to provide protection against flying objects. The standard covers performance and testing of impact and penetration resistance, optical properties, and  product lifetime.

Every pair of Scope® safety glasses supplied by WSP blocks 99% of incoming UV and meetAS/NZS 1337.1 Medium Impact Protection requirements, withstanding impacts of objects moving 45m/s.


  • Clear (91% T) – True optical clarity and protection against UV light. 91% Tran
  • Smoke (13% T) – Multipurpose outdoor lens with excellent UV and glare protection
  • Eclipse (44% T) – Light brown base lens coated with a clear reflective mirror finish. Ideal for low light outdoor conditions.
  • Mirror (48% T) – Neutral grey base lens coated with a highly reflective mirror finish. Ideal protection against sun glare.
  • Photochromatic (40 – 12% T) – Enhances color contrast, increases depth perception and fights sun glare at any level as it automatically adjusts according to the amount of UV exposure.
  • PC Polarised (15% T) – Provides excellent glare protection in any light condition and excellent colour definition.
  • PC Photochromatic (78% – 15% T) – Unique UV reactive lens activates in seconds of UV exposure, it offers the right oamount of visible light filtration and UV protection in any outdoor condition.

Frame Material

  1. Polycarbonate – Strong, lightweight and, depending on the design, slightly adjustable for better fit
  2. Co-molded – A combination of polycarbonate with rubber compounds blended together resulting in lightweight and comfortable designs
  3. Nylon – Bend it, stretch it, twist it; It’s almost unbreakable. Depending on the level of humidity, nylon frames will also naturally absorb atmospheric moisture making them softer and more flexible
